Nathaniel Riverhorse Nakadate is a Senior Editor of Story|Houston. He is a Texas native who is a staff assignment writer for Surfing Magazine, among many others, and has spent years riding waves alone from Africa to Peru. When not on the road chasing waves or fly fishing the salt flats or mountain rivers, he can often be found cranking up slide guitars through vintage tweed amps or teaching poetry. He serves on the advisory board of the Tonequest Report along with musicians Billy F Gibbons and Peter Frampton. In 2001 he was commissioned by Damian Schwiethale to compose and record the guitar music for the world premiere of a modern ballet, Shades of Gray, using artists from the Houston Ballet. He has been a guest writer and lecturer at the University of Houston Honors College numerous times for Dr. William Monroe.
