William Monroe

Editor-in-Chief and Board Member

William Monroe is the Editor-in-Chief and a Board Member of Story|Houston.  He is the author of “Primary Care,” a play about Alzheimer’s, and Power to Hurt, a monograph on alienation and interpretation that was selected as an outstanding academic book of the year by Choice magazine.  Professor Monroe received a B.A. and M.A. in English from The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied literary interpretation with R.J. Kaufmann, and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, where he studied literary theory with Wayne Booth. He is a professor of English and dean of the Honors College at the University of Houston, and he serves as president of the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association of Greater Houston. His most recent story is about a ditch.
